Abstract
Authors reviewed 13 patients who had received surgical treatment through coronal and temporal flaps from 1986 to 1993 in our department. Among 13 patients, 10 patients were diagnosed to have midfacial bone fracture and 3 patients were diagnosed
to
have
neoplasm in midface or infratemporal fossa. This flaps were made for the purpose of open reduction in 10 cases and mass excision in 3 cases.
@ES The results obtained were as follows.
@EN 1. Cornal and temporal approaches were useful treatment method of severe injuries in midfacial bones and benign or malignant tumor in midface or infratemporal fossa.
Post-operation(via coronal and temporal approaches) complications were sensory(23.1%) and motor(23.1%) deficits in forehead hematoma (7.7%) and infection(7.7%), but sensory and motor deficits in forehead disappered postoperatively within 2
months.
If operators make good use of his indication, coronal and temporal approaches will provide many benifits to the treatment of severe injuries, deformities, tumor excision and reconstruction in the mid-facial and infratemporal fossa area.
